Sing Heung Yuen （胜香园）has been sitting in my Must Eat List for the longest time. From all the Hong Kong drama mentioning one of the famous local dai pai dong food – “Kei Ngau Mien” 茄牛面 aka tomato beef noodles, from the sky high ranking at Open rice HongKong top recommended food. My curiosity and urge of trying this food increased.
Sing Heung Yuen, is the only surviving dai pai dong 大排档 selling tomato nissin noodles in Central. I will not skip this no matter what. We went there twice. First time it was already closed because I went late. They closed at 5.30pm or maybe earlier. Second time, we went around 3pm. GREAT! You know its open when you see the deadliest queue..
It was located opposite the famous “Kau Kei Beef Noodles” 九记牛腩.
The queue is quite fast. I guess there is no such things as chat a bit after food culture in Hong Kong Dai Pai Dong.
One of the MUST order — Salty Lemon Sprite 咸柠七
Absolutely love this. The saltiness balanced the carbonated drinks so well.
Ordered a milk tea 奶茶 to taste. I love milk tea in HongKong
Another must order is the Lemon Honey Crispy Bun 柠蜜脆脆. The bun is crispy inside out, layered with honey and lemon spread!
And here comes the main dish.. something that I’ve longed for…
The Tomato Beef nissin noodles with egg. 茄牛蛋面 You can opt for macaroni but I’ll prefer the nissin noodles.
Now this is really something. Its actually a very simple dish but it caught everyone’s heart. I never knew canned tomato goes so well with instant noodles and a very minimal marinated sliced beef. It doesn’t have the “wow” factor to me maybe because I had very high expectation from this. However, it is still delicious, the generous amount of tomatoes added helps to thicken the broth and also to bring out a mild sweet and tangy taste.
Oh yums!! The portion is too big for me so we share among ourselves. And I think the aunty is in a good mood she even offered bowls and utensils for us to share. #iveryscarekenascoldok #coldsweat
We ordered corn beef omelette tomato noodles 碎牛茄蛋面 as well. To be honest. I like the another one more. This one is lack of something, maybe the corn beef is too little it just doesn’t satisfy us.
As much as I love the Dai Pang Dong setting, I don’t feel very comfortable if it is that crowded and we have to squeeze at the corner for a meal. I like to take my time enjoying my food and take lotsa photos but I guess this isn’t the case in Hong Kong hawker!
