After the guide to Hualien, its time for the food! Different travellers have different perspective and liking when it comes to travelling. For me, I eat to understand the country. So do expect a lot of food in all my travel posts. Street food is something you cant miss in Taiwan. We spent 1 full day to explore the town and to try out all the street food. Limited time as well, that’s the best we could. 

续上一集的花莲之旅。。现在要来吃啦！其实每个人的旅行方法真的是很不同。。我有些朋友旅行一天三餐都可以在便利商店解决。。求的也只是在当地到此一游。。而我呢。。看我的身材就知道我是靠食物来鉴定的！呵呵呵！！小吃是台湾必尝的一项。。而我们呢。。用了一天的时间探索四周。吃遍所有应该吃的！

To make it easier for everyone, this is the food map in Hualien. Having the privilege of staying where all the good food is, we can save up in transportation and just walked around for food tasting. This is my food itinerary!

这是我所谓的花莲美食地图。。聪明的我。。定了最靠近美食地图的民宿。。嘿嘿

In my opinion, I rate my food as : 我把美食的点数分为如下：

Everyone have different taste buds, mine is a lil bit more heavy. Even like clear soup, I would want it to be flavourful instead of just pure water and onion taste, if you get what i mean 😀 口味这种东西每个人都不一样，而我比较属于重口味的。。就算是一碗清汤。。也要很清甜，很有风味。。而不是白水加葱那种。呵呵

1. 阿美麻糬 Amis Mochi  √√

Amis Mochi is unlike other ordinary mochi. The mochi is more compact and dense comparing to the normal mochi we had. It is originated from the amis native in Hualien. I bought the yam flavour. Love yam! hehe 阿美麻糬的口感会比较不同。它是来至花莲的原住民阿美族。。采用小米做的。。所以会比较Q. 

2. 鲨鱼咬吐司木瓜牛奶 Shark Bites Toast Papaya Milk  √√√

This is a random outlet we came across which is surprisingly good. They are selling toast and papaya milk. So far the best papaya milk throughout the numerous papaya milk we have tried in both Hualien and Taichung and even Taipei. Very recommended. 鲨鱼咬吐司。。无意中看到的店。。看到它有木瓜牛奶就情不自禁的走进去了。。错有错撞。。真的太好喝了。

The papaya milk is really spot on. Strong aromatic sweet papaya with the purest milk shake. Perfect even on a windy day. I love! 木瓜牛奶很浓郁。。木瓜的甜，加上牛奶的鲜。。真的很到位！大爱～

3. 鹅肉先生 Mr Goose  √

Mr Goose has been very popular in Hualien. Most Taxi Drivers and even the online post will recommend ones to try out. I tried. Not as what i’ve expected. I had better goose meal in Taipei and Taichung which makes this one probably lack a few points. 鹅肉先生是在花莲数一数二出名的老店。。大家都很大力的推荐。。可能是口味的不同吧。。这家真的有点失望哦。我本人会比较喜欢西门町的那家。

The goose itself is kind of tasteless. Very mild taste but very strong goose smell. 鹅肉没味道。。而且有点淡淡的腥味。。我不爱

Goose pancreas if not mistaken based on how the boss describe. This is absolutely tasteless but the texture wise it is a lil bit crunchy. I think the sauce makes everything better in taste. 这是鹅尺。。就是肠子下面的一些东西。。虽然没什么味道。。可是鹅尺还蛮脆的。配上它的粘酱。。感觉还不错！

All hail the sauce <3 独特的粘酱。。

Goose Gizzards. Taste like normal chicken gizzard but softer. 鹅胗。。口感比鸡胗再软嫩一点

Glass noodles with minced meat. Not too bad though. 干冬粉。普普

4. 来成排骨 Lai Chen Pork Ribs  √√

Initially we are opting for Jing Xiang Pork Ribs which gain more reputation from the locals but.. sadly it was closed that day. We then headed to the second recommended one which is Lai Chen Pork Ribs. 原本想去的京湘排骨那天休假。。所以只好去网上传的轰轰叫的来成排骨。

Lai Chen Pork Ribs can be easily found, i guess thats why it is popular on the internet? 来成排骨很容易找。。就在顶顶大名的中正路上。

We ordered pork rib dry noodles. The noodle is good but there’s hardly any pork rib, the flour is too thick.. where is the meat… T.T 点了排骨干面。。干面有劲Q弹。。可是排骨就差了点。。外层裹的粉还蛮厚的。。几乎都吃不到肉的味道。

And some side dishes.. we had the famous golden egg, boiled squid and pork cheek!The golden egg is a blast. Its solid on the outside but the york is very creamy! 还有小菜！怎么可以不点小菜呢！黄金蛋。。小卷和嘴边肉。。黄金蛋略赢。。看看那个溏心蛋黄。。非常绵密非常好吃。。

5. 曾记麻糬 Tzen Mochi  √√

Now this is the Hualien famous one. Do not have to worry if you cant find it, it is all over the places.. in the town area where we stay, they have like more than 10 outlets there. Some are as close as opposite each other. 曾记麻糬是花莲数一数二的特产。不用担心你找不到。。因为他真的是偏部整个市区。。几乎走几步路就会看到一间。。

Originated from an old man surnamed chen who made good mochi. The son in law hence borrowed his name and start the mochi business.. and i bet you can see his success in HuaLien. It is really all over the place. 来源是一位姓曾的老爷爷。。做麻糬很有一手。。于是女婿就借用了他的名来打天下。。鼓而言之。。做的还真成功呢

This mochi is different again from the Amis Mochi i mentioned earlier. This is the soft mochi like what we had but of coz, the big difference is that they are homemade. There is no preservatives added and therefore, it can only last for 1 day. If you would like to bought some back for friends and family, you can only opt for the one packages but the taste is much different. 曾记麻糬和阿美麻糬有不同了。。他的口感比较像我们常常迟到的麻糬。。唯有不同的是他们家的麻糬是每天现做的。。没有添加防腐剂。。也因为这样子。。麻糬也只能放一天的时间。最还是现买现吃。。如果硬要买会去当礼品。。你们也可以买现成包装好的。。可是。。口感就有差了！

I bought the famous peanuts one. The mochi is soft and the peanuts is very fragrant. It is good enough but i still love the yam one 买一颗花生口味的。。麻糬相当的软Q. 花生也很香。可是本小姐还是独爱我的芋头口味的啦

Cant resist to buy the yam one.. the yam is freshly mashed with still some chunks inside. And the portion of yam fillings, satisfied! 芋头口味。。我的首选！陷都满出来了。。芋头很浓郁。。而且还有一点芋头的颗粒。。好幸福！！

6. 花莲水果 Local Fruits  √

Now this is a little bit disappointing. I remembered I had the best fruits in Taipei for a lot of times but Hualien ones are very disappointing. I’ve tried quite a few types of fruits throughout the whole trip but nothing is impressive. I guess i went to the wrong season? Fruits in summer and winter are way much better 台湾水果一直都是我的大爱。。可是这次的水果都蛮失望的。别说了 T.T

7. 公正包子 Gong Zheng Steamed Bun  √√√

Its open for 24 hours!!! The very infamous steamed bun in Hualien. Go to the right then you dont have to queue… Go to the wrong hours like dinner time and supper time or even morning time from around 9am something and you will get this. 二十四小时营业的公正包子。。来对时间就不用排队。。如果不幸在用餐的时候到。。就勉强排一正子咯。。

The steamed bun is good and cheap. TWD 5 for each. 美味的包子。。便宜又好吃

Very simple fillings like only minced meat with very very very little of onion. Simple but very juicy and flavourful. Becareful when you take the first bite, its very JUICY! 肉包子的陷料是很单纯的猪肉。。没有多余的菜和有的没的。。就是小孩子的肉包子。面皮很Q. 是有密度的。。不会因为有汤汁而变的糊糊的。。还有千万要叮咛。。吃的时候要小心哦，会爆浆滴～

8. 周记蒸饺 Zhou’s Steamed Dumplings  √√√

It is located just beside Gong Zheng steamed bun. Selling exactly the same thing but so much less queue. Opened 24 hours as well so if you are lazy to queue, jump over to Zhou’s. 在公正包子旁边的是周记蒸饺。。卖一样的东西可是就不用什么排队。。一样是二十四小时营业。。味道也是一样好。。

They are specialized in steamed dumplings. Thumbs up really! The dumpling skin is very thin and moist. Fillings are good and seasoning is spot on. TWD 3 for 1.  蒸饺当然是必点。肉质非常鲜美。。汤汁有多。。最重要的也是那个半透明超薄的面皮！让你一吃在吃！

We ordered a bowl of meat broth soup to taste. We love it as well. Not too thick with a slight punch of pepper in the soup. Perfect for a morning kick start! 肉羹汤也是绝顶。调味非常适中。。勾芡也刚好。。还有那一点辛辣的胡椒粉。。让你吃了肚子软呼呼的！
